Clear information for families

RockSeries, accreditation and the NSC pathway

We believe families deserve honest information about what RockSeries currently provides, what it does not yet provide, and how official Grade 10–12 assessment works.

Good news for Grades R–9 families

RockSeries may be used with confidence as a CAPS-aligned curriculum resource and learning-support platform for Grades R–9. SACAI registration is not required for RockSeries to provide learning material, educational activities, practice assessments and progress tools during these phases.

RockSeries supports learning Families receive lessons, practice, revision, learning records and internal progress reports.
Parents remain in control For home education, the parent directs the programme and applies to the Provincial Education Department where required.
Tutors may assist Parents may use tutors, learning-support services and online educational resources to strengthen specific areas of learning.

RockSeries may test learners regularly and issue internal progress reports. These tests, completed activities and reports can form valuable evidence in the learner's portfolio. For registered home education, the parent must also arrange for a competent assessor to review the learner's attainment and sign a formal report at the end of each phase: Foundation Phase (R–3), Intermediate Phase (4–6) and Senior Phase (7–9).

Grade 10–12 and the official NSC: our current status

RockSeries Educational Software is currently a CAPS-aligned learning-support and curriculum-resource platform. RockSeries is not currently registered with SACAI as a Distance Education Provider, is not an Umalusi-accredited independent school or assessment body, and does not register learners for the National Senior Certificate (NSC).

This notice is intended to prevent misunderstanding and help parents make informed decisions.

What RockSeries provides

  • Learning material designed to support the South African CAPS curriculum
  • Explanations, practice activities, revision and educational tools
  • Internal progress checks and reports that help parents monitor learning
  • Support for parents, tutors and learners

What RockSeries does not currently provide

  • Registration as an official NSC candidate
  • Official SBA, PAT or language oral assessment submitted to an assessment body
  • Official NSC examinations or examination-centre placement
  • An NSC, Umalusi certificate or official school promotion certificate

Planning an official NSC pathway

The NSC is a three-year qualification covering Grades 10, 11 and 12. Families who want a learner to obtain an NSC must make arrangements with a recognised NSC institution or provider that is registered with an accredited assessment body and can manage all official assessment requirements.

1

Confirm before Grade 10

Choose the intended qualification, subjects and official assessment route early.

2

Verify the provider

Confirm the institution's current registration directly with SACAI, the IEB or the relevant education authority.

3

Meet every requirement

Ensure that official SBA, practical tasks, oral assessments, promotion and final-examination requirements are completed.

Important: Do not assume that a first-time NSC learner can wait until Grade 12 and then register directly for the final examination. Obtain written confirmation of the learner's official Grade 10–12 pathway from the chosen registered provider or assessment body.

Our direction for the future

RockSeries is developing its Grade 10–12 learning programme with the long-term goal of pursuing the appropriate formal registration or partnership route once the programme, assessment systems, staffing and compliance structures are ready. Until RockSeries confirms a change in writing, the current status described on this page remains applicable.

Frequently asked questions

Is RockSeries a registered school?

No. RockSeries currently provides educational software, learning resources and learning support. It must not be represented as a registered public or independent school.

Is RockSeries currently registered with SACAI?

No. RockSeries is not currently a SACAI-registered Distance Education Provider or assessment centre.

May RockSeries test learners in Grades R–9?

Yes. RockSeries may provide tests, activities, progress checks and internal reports. These results can form part of the learner's portfolio and help a competent assessor evaluate the learner at the end of a phase. If RockSeries offers a separate phase-end assessment service through a suitably qualified competent assessor in future, the resulting formal report will clearly identify and be signed by that assessor.

Are RockSeries reports official NSC records?

No. They are internal learning-progress records intended to help families and tutors monitor work completed on the platform. They are not Umalusi certificates, official SBA records or guarantees of promotion or admission.

May a Grade 10–12 learner still use RockSeries?

Yes, as a learning-support resource. The family must separately maintain the learner's official registration and assessment arrangements with a recognised NSC provider and ensure that the provider accepts and coordinates the learner's programme.

Official information and verification

Rules, registration dates and institutional status can change. Families should verify current requirements directly with the relevant official body before enrolling or paying a provider.
